Landmine blast kills child in Deir ez-Zor countryside
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A boy lost his life on Monday in a landmine explosion, likely left by the Islamic State (ISIS), in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
Hussein al-Mahal, a resident from al-Marashidah town, 120km east of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press, “12-year-old boy Ali al-Wazir lost his life in a landmine explosion, near a pomegranate farm in the town, while he was trying to dismantle it and extract copper to sold it.”
Al-Mahal added that the landmine had the shape of a projectile.
War remnants spread in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside in general, and the towns of al-Marashidah, al-Sousa and al-Baghouz in particular, given that they were the last ISIS strongholds.
On Sunday, a child was killed and two others were wounded in a similar blast in the town of Ayyash, 5km east of Deir ez-Zor.
