Turkish border guards assault Syrians trying to cross border
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday at dawn, Turkish border guards assaulted about 40 people trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border near the city of Salqin in the northern countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria.
A local source told North Press that the Turkish border guards detained around 40 people while trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border near the village of Hir Jamus in Salqin countryside in the northwest of Idlib in order to look for job opportunities in Turkey.
The Turkish guards beat the whole group. Some of them were transferred to Salqin hospitals at dawn. The guards also opened fire on several young men trying to pull back to Syrian territories but they missed them.
Medical sources in al-Amal Orthopedics Hospital in Salqin confirmed that more than 12 young men between the ages of 20 and 35 were admitted to hospital during late hours of the night mostly with fractures in their hands and feet. Some were transferred to surgery due to shattered bones.
Most people trying to cross into Turkish territories resort to dangerous smuggling methods with no prospects of reuniting with families or landing a job to secure their needs, especially with dire economic and living conditions in Idlib.
