Turkish shelling targets government posts in Aleppo countryside

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and their affiliated armed Syrian opposition factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), targeted on Friday posts of the Syrian government forces in the northern countryside of Aleppo with heavy artillery.

A local source told North Press, “The Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions targeted the government posts situated on the outskirts of the town of Tel Rifaat and villages affiliated with the town including Harbel, Sheikh Issa, and Kafr Antoun with 17 artillery shells.”

The town of Tel Rifaat, 35 km north of Aleppo city, has been a shelter for Afrin displaced people since 2018 following the Turkish invasion of Afrin and its countryside which resulted in the displacement of about 300.000 of the original inhabitants.

Tel Rifaat and other villages and towns of Aleppo northern countryside, also known as Shahba region, witness Turkish bombing and shelling on almost a daily basis.

The source added that the shelling followed clashes erupted between the government forces on one hand and the Turkish forces and the SNA factions on the other on contact lines near the town of Marea and Sheikh Issa and Harbel.

It noted that the Turkish shelling resulted in only material losses.

Additionally, the Turkish forces and their affiliated factions hit the government posts on the outskirts of the village of Ibbin east of Afrin, in Aleppo northern countryside, with heavy artillery.

On Thursday, four soldiers of the Syrian government forces, including officers, were killed and injured in Turkish artillery shelling that targeted the village of Mayasah in Sherawa district in Afrin  north of Aleppo.

Turkish artillery continues to repeatedly and indiscriminately target villages and towns in the northern countryside of Aleppo, causing civilian casualties and material damages.
