Two Syrian soldiers wounded in drone attack in Latakia

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria said on Saturday two soldiers of the Syrian government forces were wounded in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria.

Deputy Head of the Russian Coordination Center in Syria, Oleg Egorov, said, two Syrian soldiers were wounded in a “terrorist” attack with a drone in the coastal governorate of Latakia.

As for northeast Syria, Egorov added, “No violations were recorded by the Kurdish forces [SDF] in northeast Syria.”

He pointed out that during the past 24 hours, four shells were launched from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) areas in Idlib governorate, and three shells in Latakia Governorate.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

On Dec. 24, 2022, the Center announced the death of three soldiers of the government forces and the injury of four others due to bombardment by opposition factions in Idlib, northwest Syria.
