ISIS claims two attacks against SDF in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Saturday the responsibility for two operations against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
The ISIS-run Amaq news agency posted a statement saying militants of the group targeted, with machine guns, a checkpoint of the SDF close to the entrance of the town of al-Hereji in the district of al-Suwar, some 70 km north of Deir ez-Zor.
The attack resulted in injuries and damaged the checkpoint, the statement added.
In another statement, ISIS said its militants had detonated an IED against a military vehicle of the SDF on the al-Khorafi road.
As a result, the vehicle was completely destructed without reports on casualties.
However, the SDF has not published any information about the two attacks, so far.
Despite intensive security measures, the SDF is adopting in the region as festivals of New Year are approaching, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been recently witnessing a significant increase in ISIS sleeper cells’ activity.
Although the SDF launches intensive security operations in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, the region has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF fighters, employees of the AANES, tribal figures, and civilians.
With these two attacks, the number of operations ISIS has claimed in the areas held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) during 2022 raises to 187.
