Unknown attackers target 2 Asayish members in Syria’s Raqqa

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, two members of Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) were targeted by unknown individuals east of Raqqa, north Syria.

A source in Asayish said unknown attackers targeted a water tanker belonging to the Asayish off Martyrs Cemetery in the town of Jdaydet, 45 kilometers east of Raqqa, wounding two members.

The wounded Asayish members were transferred to a hospital in the city for treatment, according to the source.

However, the source has not provided details about the wounded condition, how the attack was carried out or any information about the attackers.

On Dec. 26, an Islamic State Organization (ISIS) sleeper cell targeted a center of Asayish in Raqqa, claiming lives of six Asayish and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) members and wounding others.

Early on Thursday, the SDF launched operation “Al-Jazeera Thunderbolt” to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in the countryside of Hasakah and Qamishli.

The SDF Media Center revealed in a statement that the campaign has been launched in the areas from which “recent terrorist attacks” were launched against Hawl Camp, Hasakah and south of Qamishli and that “could be source for possible attacks.”
