China calls on Turkey to stop attacks on Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – China expressed on Wednesday its refusal of the Turkish attacks on northeastern Syria.

Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, said, in remarks at a UN Security Council briefing on Syria, “Syria is a sovereign state,” and any military action on it is “a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

On Nov. 20, the Turkish air force launched intense airstrikes on all Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas on the Syrian-Turkish border in addition to bombarding areas that are more than 40 km away from the border such as US-led Global Coalition military base and Hawl Camp in Hasakah and the village of Makman in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

This came in tandem with the Turkish threats, as Erdogan revealed on Nov. 21 that there were talks with parties to the conflict of Syria to carry out a ground operation on northern Syria and northern Iraq.

Shuang called on Turkey to stop attacks on northern Syria and to find a political solution.

In addition, the deputy stressed that any illegal presence of foreign troops in Syria must be ended.

On his part, Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the UN, said, “No country has the right to teach us lessons about our fight against terrorism.”
