No Russian green light for Turkish operation in Syria – Ilham Ahmad
WASHINGTON, US (North Press)- Ilham Ahmad, President of the Executive Committee of Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said on Thursday that Turkey said today that Russia had okayed a ground operation into north Syria. However, according to Ahmad, that needs to be verified as these information were circulated by Turkish media and government.
Ahmad laid doubts on Ankara’s intention for a rapprochement with Damascus, indicating it could be at the expense of the Kurds and their rights.
In a Zoom statement to the Kurdish Institute in Washington, Ahmad said there is no Russian okay for a ground invasion into north Syria.
Ahmad noted that Ankara tries to press the international community via investing in a number of issues such as approaching Damascus, the war in Ukraine and NATO enlargement, and “this should not be passed at the expense of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).”
Ahmad noted that the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) seeks to secure the rights of the Kurdish people in a decentralized, democratic and inclusive Syria.
Ahmad pointed out that the SDC believes the Kurdish cause in Iraqi Kurdistan and Turkey could be solved within federations that recognize all citizens.
Regarding the international reaction to the Turkish threats Ahmad said, “It did not rise to the occasion this time, especially on the first days of aerial bombardment on the region. However, it did develop afterwards.”
Deeds are needed to stop Turkish threats properly, according to Ahmad.
