187 organizations condemn Turkish attacks on NE Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, 187 Syrian organizations condemned Turkish military escalation against north and northeast Syria and demanded UN exert pressure to stop the attacks.

The organizations demanded that the UN Security Council hold an emergency meeting regarding the recent Turkish military escalation.

Since November 20, intense and wide spread aerial operation is being carried out by the Turkish forces against north and northeast Syria which has claimed tens of lives and destroyed facilities and infrastructure along the whole border strip from Aleppo northern countryside in the northwest up to Derik (al-Malikiyah) in the northeast.

In a statement, the organizations said that the region of northern Syria has become a “home to hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who fled their original places of residence in other parts of the country to the safety of its north.”

The attacks rendered several of the targeted facilities inoperable, straining the infrastructure already dilapidated by the conflict, which has been ongoing since 2011, the organizations added.

The organizations noted to grave human rights violations and war crimes marked all of Turkey’s incursions into Syria since 2016.

Turkey launched three military operations against northern and northeastern regions in Syria. The first was “Euphrates Shield” operation in 2016 where it occupied Jarablus and al-Bab, the second was “Olive Branch” operation in 2018 where it occupied Afrin region, and the third was “Peace Spring” in 2019 which resulted in the occupation of the two cities of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad with their countryside.

The organizations condemned the Turkish military escalation in north and northeast Syria and demand that “Turkey end attacks on civilians and civilian objects immediately and demonstrate respect for international humanitarian law.”
