SDF reveals death toll of Turkish airstrikes on Hawl Camp
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) revealed on Thursday the number of the fighters who lost lives during a Turkish air raid on Hawl Camp, south of Hasakah in northeast Syria.
The SDF announced that eight members in charge of the camp’s protection lost their lives during the Turkish air raids.
On Wednesday, a Turkish warplane targeted with three strikes the vicinity of Hawl Camp which houses thousands of the families of the Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants.
The SDF said the airstrikes were planned aiming at facilitating the escape of ISIS families from the camp.
Following the airstrikes, disruption occurred within the camp which led six people of the camp’s inmates to escape, the SDF said on Wednesday.
Since November 20, intense and wide spread aerial operation is being carried out by the Turkish forces against north and northeast Syria which has claimed tens of lives and destroyed facilities and infrastructure along the whole border strip from Aleppo northern countryside in the northwest up to Derik (al-Malikiyah) in the northeast.
It warned that such attacks by Turkey pose a threat to the region and the world as a whole amid the international community inaction.
The SDF held the international community responsible for the risk of ISIS re-emergence.
Hawl Camp is the most dangerous camp in northeastern Syria, as it is a home for more than 55.000 of women and children of ISIS militants.
On Wednesday, the SDF announced suspending its mission against ISIS due to the latest Turkish escalation in the SDF-held areas.
Farhad Shami, head of the SDF Media Center, quoted the forces’ Commander in Chief Mazloum Abdi as saying, “Due to our forces’ preoccupation with addressing the Turkish occupation, they cannot continue their mission of pursuing ISIS cells. Currently, we’re forced to be preoccupied with confronting Turkish aggression.”
