Turkish shelling of Syria’s Kobani destroys school, displaces people
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, villages in the eastern countryside of Kobani, northern Syria, were subjected to intense artillery shelling of Turkish forces which destroyed a school and caused a wave of displacement.
Since last night, the Turkish forces have started targeting several regions in northern Syria, causing casualties and damages to infrastructure.
The Turkish forces shelled the villages of Koran, Koltap, Khana and Qaramogh in the eastern countryside of Kobani.
“The school of Koran and houses of the civilians have been completely destroyed as a result of the Turkish shelling,” said Ali Herro, a villager from Koran.
He told North Press that the people displaced to the southern villages, and that “some of them are in the open.”
Omar Khalil, from Koltap, said that the shelling has been going on since last night which has caused a state of panic among the civilians.
The shelling of the Turkish forces caused a full destruction of the infrastructure of the power grid and the demolition of three houses in the village.
The Turkish military escalation on northern Syria has been going on for the fourth day amid international inaction and weak stances of the states involved in the Syrian crisis.
