France voices concern over Turkish military escalation in Syria, Iraq

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, French Foreign Ministry voiced concern over Turkish escalation in Syria, calling on Turkey to show self-control.

On the sidelines of an international meeting dedicated to support for Moldova, French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonnade, expressed her concern over a series of Turkish airstrikes that targeted Kurdish sites in Syria and Iraq on November 20.

Turkish forces and their affiliated armed Syrian opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), continue immensely targeting areas in north and northeast Syria with artillery shells, drones and airstrikes.

Colonnade noted that this is not the first time to see “Turkey carrying out attacks against another country.”

She stressed that Turkey should show restraint.

The French Foreign Minister said that her country considers Turkey’s concern over security against terrorism, stressing that issues cannot be solved “in this type of means and this type of methods.”

Meanwhile, Germany commented on the Turkish airstrikes, calling for Turkey to act “proportionally.”

Additionally, Russia called on Turkey to show “restraint.”

The Turkish airstrikes also targeted posts of the Syrian government forces, killing 13 soldiers and wounding seven others.
