ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – On Saturday, Iraqi forces launched a security operation to pursue Islamic State Organization (ISIS) sleeper cells in the Hamrin mountain range in the eastern province of Diyala, east Iraq.

The operation has started across five fronts and will be concentrated in the northwest of the Azim district, between the road between Baghdad and Kirkuk, and the district of Qara Taba to eliminate elements of the ISIS hiding in the area, according to a statement by Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).

Though ISIS was geographically defeated, different areas in central Iraq, especially in the disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad, witness periodic operations by ISIS, targeting security sites and civilians in remote villages.

This operation is supported from the air by Iraqi Air Forces, and it has come a day after the 8th phase of “Solid Will” operation to pursue radical ISIS west the country near the border with Syria.
