Casualties In Shelling Between Government, Opposition In Syria’s Northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A person lost his life while three others were injured on Thursday in mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), in the countryside of Aleppo, Idlib and Latakia Governorates in northwest Syria.

An opposition source told North Press that “the government forces shelled with rockets and artillery Turkmen Mountain north of Latakia Governorate, causing the death of one person and wounding three others.”

The source said that “the government forces tried on Thursday evening to advance towards the outposts of SNA and  Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), on the axis of Base 46, west of Aleppo amid heavy clashes between both sides.”

The source added that the government forces also targeted the villages and towns of Tuqad, Kafr Taal, Kafr Nouran, al-Wasatah, al-Abzimo, Irhab, al-Wasatah, al-Qasr, and the city of al-Atarib in the western countryside of Aleppo

In Idlib, the government forces shelled opposition positions in the villages and towns of Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, Benin, al-Ruweiha in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, the source said.

Meanwhile, a source of the National Front for Liberation told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted with dozens of heavy artillery the government forces’ positions in the city of Saraqib, and the axes of Kafr Mus, Fleifel, Jarada, Dadikh, and Tel Mardikh south and east of Idlib.

Al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room includes the National Front for Liberation, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Jaysh al-Izza. The military bloc is active in Idlib and Hama countryside.

Al-Fateh al-Mubin also targeted the government positions in Salma, and Ain al-Baida in the northern countryside of Latakia, and Base 46, Miznaz, Basratun, and Urem al-Kubra in the western countryside of Aleppo, according to National Front for Liberation source.

The areas in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria continue to witness daily exchange of bombardment between the SNA factions and the government forces, despite being part of the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020, which stipulates a halt of military action in Idlib.
