Syrian government forces raid houses in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces raided on Thursday a number of houses searching for wanted people in the city of al-Sanamayn, in the northern countryside of Daraa Governorate, south Syria.
A local source told North Press, “A joint patrol of different security branches of the government forces raided al-Joura neighborhood in al-Sanamayn.”
“Patrol members raided a number of houses within the neighborhood and thoroughly searched them, and closed the feeder roads that lead to them,” the source added.
The source noted, “The search was carried out with the aim of capturing two former militants of the Syrian opposition factions who refused to join the 2018 Russian-mediated settlement agreement and moved to Lebanon, but they came back to the city of al-Sanamayn a month ago.”
In July 2018, the Syrian opposition armed factions and government forces reached a settlement agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition militants who agreed to hand over their heavy weapons were handed a settlement card and allowed to stay in Daraa, while those opposed the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).
The source continued, “No one was arrested during the raid, but the city witnessed a state of fear and horror. The young men of the city, on the other hand, remained in their houses fearing of being arrested.”
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with daily assassinations targeting civilians, and members of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
