ISIS claims Iran’s deadly attack
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) announced on Wednesday its responsibility for the attack against a Shiite shrine in south Iran that left deaths and injuries.
In a statement released on ISIS-run Amaq, the Organization said “40 deaths and injuries” were reported in the operation.
A man opened fire on visitors to shrine of Imam Ahmad bin Imam Musa Bin Jaafar in the city of Shiraz south Iran.
Aide to Political, Social and Security Affairs in Fares Ismail Mahbi Pur said the “terrorist” attack left 15 deaths and 23 injuries.
It is likely that the number of deaths rise due to severity of some injuries, according to media outlets.
Footage taken by a surveillance camera shows allegedly a man entering the shrine and opening fire.
President of Iran Ibrahim Raisi said the attack will not pass “unpunished” holding “enemies of Iran” the responsibility for resorting to violence.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim agency said authorities arrested two persons on their involvement in the attack and efforts are still under way to arrest a third.
