International silence ‘supports’ Turkish attacks in NE Syria – AANES

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) condemned on Tuesday Turkey’s targeting of civilians in northeastern Syria, denouncing international silence regarding such acts.

The AANES considered the international silence as a “support” for the Turkish policy and attacks.

On Monday evening, a Turkish drone bombed a construction facility in Qamishli city, northeast Syria, killing at least two people.

This came in a statement in which the AANES said the Turkish attacks against civilians aim to create chaos and warns of serious consequences.

Additionally, lack of “international or legal deterrent” encourages Turkey to move on in its attacks against people of northeast Syria, the statement read.

The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.

The Turkish attacks against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) leaders, civilians and AANES foundations are “clear violation of all international moral standers and covenants,” it added.

The AANES called for the actors in the Syrian issue and the international community to take clear and firm stances “that clearly present the value and truth of international laws distinguish between Turkey’s justifications and unprovoked methods of attacks and war against the Syrians and our areas.”

On October 12, a Turkish drone targeted a vehicle carrying fighters affiliated with the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the commemoration ceremony of the Future Syria Party’s former co-chair Hevrin Khalaf in Derik, far northeast Syria.

The drone attack claimed the live of a fighter of the Syriac Security Office and injured others.

The Syriac Security Office, known as the Sutoro or the Sutoro Police, is a Christian Assyrian/Syriac police force operates in Jazira Region (Hasakah Governorate), run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), and works in concert with the general Asayish.

On September 26, the Executive Council of the AANES in the city of Kobani, northern Syria, was targeted in a Turkish drone strike, causing material damage.
