Following reconciliation, Hamas condemns Israeli strikes on Syria’s Damascus
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic group, condemned on Saturday night the Israeli bombing of the Syrian capital Damascus, marking the first statement of its kind after restoring relations with the Syrian government.
Hamas said that it would continue to develop relations with Syrian government to confront the Israeli aggression.
Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria said on Saturday night that an Israeli airstrike hit the vicinity of Damascus on Friday, destroying an air-defense radar and the runway of al-Dimas military airport.
Deputy Head of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria, Oleg Egorov, said Israel airstrike destroyed YLC-6M radar of Syrian Air Defense and al-Dimas airport’s runway.
The spokesman of the Islamic group, Hazem Qassem, said that the Israeli raids are a repeated Zionist crime and bullying against the nation.
“It is an extension of the killing and terror operations against the Palestinian people,” he added.
He noted that Hamas presence in Damascus will have a strong impact on “the resistance in general and on Palestinian resistance in particular,” stressing on improving relations with Syria after a 10-year estrangement.
France 24 reported, quoting Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas chief of Arab relations, “This is a glorious and important day, in which we come back to our dear Syria to resume joint work.”
The delegation met the Syrian president and it was the first visit since severing ties with Damascus in 2012.
