US delegation visits Syria’s Raqqa at 5th anniversary of ISIS expulsion
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – A high-level delegation from the US and US-led Global Coalition visited, on Thursday, Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) building in Raqqa, north Syria, after participating in the 5th anniversary of the expulsion of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) from the city.
The delegation was headed by Nikolas Granger, US Senior Representative to Northeast Syria, and he met officials of the AANES and Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).
The SDC is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was founded in 2015 and includes all the communities of north and east Syria.
Granger told North Press, “On behalf of the United States of America and the Global Coalition to defeat ISIS, it is my honor to be here today.”
“Today on the fifth anniversary of deliberation of the city of Raqqa, I am happy to be in this place,” he added.
He went further saying that he is a “symbol of our continuing partnership together with the people of northeast Syria to fight against terrorism and to build a better future.”
Today marks the 5th anniversary of ISIS expulsion from Raqqa by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by the US-led Global Coalition.
Granger stressed, “We made promises that we would continue working together to fight against terrorism and give people hope for the future.”
ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.
