Sporadic shelling between government, opposition in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Areas in de-escalation zone in the countryside of Aleppo, Hama, and Idlib, northwest Syria, witnessed on Wednesday mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA).

A military source from the opposition told North Press that the government forces heavily shelled opposition positions in the villages and towns of Kafr Amma, Kafr Taal, Tuqad, Maklabis, al-Wasatah, al-Atarib and al-Qasr in the western countryside of Aleppo.

The government forces, the source said, also shelled opposition positions in the villages and towns of Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, al-Ruweiha, San, Benin and al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.

The SNA military posts in al-Ankawi, Qarqur, Khirbat al-Naqus, and al-Hamidiyah in al-Ghab Plain, west of Hama, were subjected to similar bombardment.

Meanwhile, a source of the National Front for Liberation told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted with heavy artillery the government forces’ positions in Base 46, west of Aleppo, and al-Malaja, south of Idlib.

The areas in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria continue to witness daily exchange of bombardment between the SNA factions and the government forces, despite being part of the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020, which stipulates a halt of military action in Idlib.
