2 people killed in separate incidents in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen killed on Thursday two men in two different areas in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
A local source told North Press, “Nurse Adnan Hamid Kiwan was shot dead on the Tafas-Muzayrib road in the western countryside of Daraa.”
Kiwan did not join any military or security formation since the government forces took control of Daraa Governorate in 2018, the source added.
In July 2018, the Syrian opposition armed factions and government forces reached a settlement agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition militants who agreed to hand over their heavy weapons were handed a settlement card and allowed to stay in Daraa, while those opposed the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).
Similarly, another local source told North press that “Hamza al-Salloum was shot and killed by unknown attackers riding a motorcycle near the displaced people camp in Daraa city.”
“Al-Salloum was taken to Daraa National Hospital and passed away there.” The source added.
The source noted, “Al-Salloum joined the Russian-mediated 2018 settlement agreement and did not engage with any military or security body ever since.”
Since the Syrian government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with assassinations, arrests and thefts taking place on a daily basis, amid the government’s failure to hold it under control.
