Government division kills, wounds civilians in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, two civilians were killed and three others were wounded by Syrian government forces in a town, east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of Abu Kamal on the Syrian-Iraqi border said members of 4th Armored Division of the Syrian government forces on a checkpoint stationed near al-Ward oil field in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor opened fire on a van carrying civilians coming from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)-held areas, east of Euphrates.

As a result, two individuals from Abu Kamal were killed and three from its countryside were wounded, the source told North Press.

After checking and verifying the passengers’ IDs, the car moved on after that the checkpoint’s members targeted it with no reason, according to the source.

The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria, and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda and Palmyra.

Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
