Turkish-backed faction arrests 15 Kurdish civilians in Syria’s Afrin
QAMIHSLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish-backed armed faction arrested on Saturday 15 civilians from the Kurdish-city of Afrin in northern Syria.
Sham Legion, a faction affiliated with Turkish forces, raided the village of Birj Haydar in the south of Afrin in Aleppo northern countryside and arrested 15 civilians.
Afrin Post, a news website follows up on the developments in Afrin, said that the arrested people were taken to Iska prison, south of Afrin.
The Turkish forces and their affiliated factions arrest civilians constantly charged with dealing with the Autonomous Administration of Afrin, Human Rights Organization-Afrin said.
Since the beginning of October, 24 civilians of Afrin were arrested by the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA).
According to Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY), 615 civilians were arrested since early this year, including 24 children and 35 women.
Afrin, a Kurdish city in the north of Aleppo, has been under the control of Turkey since March 2018 following a military operation called “Olive Branch” which resulted in the displacement of about 300.000 people of the original inhabitants of the city and its countryside.
The SNA-held areas in northern Syria continue to witness insecurity, instability and chaos due to the factions’ failure to hold the situation under control.
