SDF fighter killed, another injured in attack in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Syria) – A fighter of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was killed while another was wounded on Tuesday in an armed attack in a town north of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
A military source of the SDF in the village of Abu al-Nitel near the town of al-Suwar told North Press, “Unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle targeted with machine guns two SDF fighters on the outskirts of the town’s desert.”
“The attack claimed the life of one of them and wounded the other. The injured was hospitalized to the Military Hospital at al-Omar Oil Field, and now he is in a serious condition,” the source added citing a doctor at the hospital.
“The masked gunmen fled towards the Syrian Badia [desert] after the attack,” according to an eye witnesses.
On Monday, the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed responsibility for targeting an SDF military vehicle with an IED in the town of Jazarat al-Buhamid in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
Recently, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has witnessed a spike in assassination attempts against SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration’s institutions, tribal leaders and civilians, despite the intensive security operations launched by the SDF. ISIS claimed most of these operations.
