Russian aircrafts renew shelling of Syria’s Idlib countryside

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Russian warplanes renewed shelling of sites of Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions in the countryside of Idlib, in northwestern Syria, while the countryside of Idlib, Hama and Aleppo underwent mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces and the opposition factions.

Military sources of the opposition told North Press the Russian warplanes targeted, with 12 airstrikes, the outskirts of the villages of al-Ruweiha and Mseibin in Zawiya Mountain south of Idlib.

The Russian airstrikes coincided with artillery and missiles shelling by the government forces, from their positions, of the opposition sites in the villages and towns of Kansafra, al-Fatterah, Fleifel, Deir Sunbul, Benin and al-Ruweiha in Zawiya Mountain.

Meanwhile, the villages and towns of al-Ankawi, al-Hamidiyah, Duqmaq, al-zaqum, Kulaidan, al-Halobaa and Hmeimat in Ghab Plain west of Hama were targeted with 100 artillery and missile shells, according to the same sources.

Military sources from the National Front for Liberation told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Opperations’ Room targeted with mortars the government forces’ posts in Base 46 and the village of al-Amqiyah in Ghab Plain.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict amid news of government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
