UN agricultural project in Syria’s Raqqa moves on

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – “Rehabilitation of Pumping Station and Channels in Ar-Raqqa” project archives “significant progress,” the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) and the United Nations Development Programme in Syria (UNDP) revealed on Tuesday.

The project is meant to rehabilitate the pumping station and the connected irrigation, field channels, to clean agricultural drains in six villages, and reopen blocked seasonal rainfall watercourse, according to the SRTF and UNDP.

SRTF is a multi-donor trust fund initiated by the Group of Friends of the Syrian People and its Working Group on Economic Recovery and Development.

UNDP is the leading UN organization, fighting to end the injustice of poverty, inequality, and climate change.

With about EUR 764.000, the project continues to alleviate sufferings of the residents of Raqqa, and it will benefit 300 farmers and 18.760 people, residing in the area, will benefit from the agricultural land’s reactivation and the drainage system’s improvement.

The project will increase agricultural productivity by cultivating 848 acres thus ocio-economic conditions will be improved.
