ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Health Directorate of the Turkish-backed local council announced the recording of the first infection of cholera in the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo.

The directorate also revealed a cholera infection in the city of al-Bab, east of Aleppo, after a number of suspected cases were examined.

On September 19, Early Warning Alert and Response Network (EWARN) announced the first cholera infection in the city of Jarablus in the eastern countryside of Aleppo,

The EWARN revealed the recording of the first cholera case for a 40-year-old patient in Jarablus.

Afrin has been under the occupation of Turkey since March 2018 following the so-called “Olive Branch” military operation, while al-Bab and Jarablus, have been under the Turkish occupation since the so-called “Euphrates Shield” military operation launched by Turkey and its armed factions in 2016.

The directorate noted, through its Facebook account, the need to take preventative measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

A local source told North Press that most of the organizations operating declared a state of emergency, amid preparations for all medical personnel, developing plans to limit the cholera outbreak.
