Father, his daughter killed in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, unidentified armed men shot dead a man and his daughter in the western countryside of Daraa, south Syria.
A local source told North Press, “The 52-year-old Mo’taz Abu Hamdan and his daughter were killed after being shot by unidentified attackers in the town of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa.”
During the attack the father and his daughter were critically injured, to succumb later to their injuries after being transferred to the National Hospital in Tafas, according to the source.
Additionally, Abu Hamdan’s wife and son were injured, with the mother suffering from critical condition, and they were transferred to the same hospital.
Abu Hamdan is an Imam [an Islamic leadership position] in a mosque in Tafas, and he had worked in humanitarian aid and action during Syrian opposition factions’ control of Daraa.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.
