ISIS claims targeting SDF vehicle in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Thursday the responsibility for targeting a vehicle of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Hasakah countryside, northeast Syria.

The ISIS-run Amaq news agency said in a statement that “militants of the group targeted a vehicle of the SDF with an IED near the village of Ghariba Sharqiyah between Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor governorates.”

The targeting led to the explosion of the vehicle, and the ISIS militants returned to their positions, Amaq agency added.

Assassinations and murders in the surrounding countryside of Deir ez-Zor have recently increased targeting the SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal dignitaries and civilians despite intensive security campaigns launched by SDF.

On September 19, ISIS claimed the responsibility for two attacks against the SDF in the eastern and western countryside of Deir ez-Zor which resulted in the killing of an SDF fighter and the injury of another.

The SDF keeps pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor countryside with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region.

Since the beginning of 2022, ISIS claimed about 137 attacks against the SDF in northeast Syria’s areas, most of them in Deir ez-Zor governorate.
