AANES prepares center for cholera in Syria’s Kobani
KOBANI, Syria, (North Press) – On Wednesday, an official of the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the city of Kobani in northern Syria, said they did not record any cholera cases up to date, however, they are preparing a center to house infections.
Co-chair of the Health Board in Kobani Ahmad Mahmoud told North Press that the board has a limited amount of medicines for cholera, indicating that they need organizations’ support so that the response to the pandemic will be rapid and more effective in case of its spread.
On September 13, the United Nations (UN) expressed its “serious concern” over the ongoing cholera outbreak in Syria.
Mahmoud indicated that the main cause behind the spread of the pandemic in the region is contaminated water due to the low levels of the Euphrates River in Syrian territories adding that the region needs amounts of “chlorine” in villages close to the river.
He pointed out that the Water Directorate in the city of Kobani increased “chlorine” in the drinking water to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the city.
