2.500 cholera-like cases detected in hospital in Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a medical source from al-Razi Governmental Hospital in Aleppo city revealed to North Press the number of cases visited the hospital, who suffered from cholera-like symptoms, during the past three weeks.

The source said that “2.452 cases arrived at the hospital, with daily medical checks,” noting to the lack of precautionary measures which portends a catastrophe in the city.

Within the past 48 hours, the confirmed cholera cases has reached 116, and it can increase according to rapid diagnostic tests, with no mention to any death cases, according to the same source.

Most of the incoming cases are due to neglecting the cleanliness of drinking water sources, especially after the increasing number of infected children visiting the hospital, coming from the southern countryside of Aleppo.

Media office of the Syrian Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that cholera infections have risen to 201 confirmed cases.

The ministry’s media office statement said that the number of confirmed cholera cases has reached 201: 153 in Aleppo, 21 in Hasakah, 14 in Deir ez-Zor, 10 in Latakia, two in Damascus, and one in Homs.

The Syrian Ministry of Health said that there are 14 cholera-caused deaths 11 of them in Aleppo, two in Deir ez-Zor, and one in Hasakah.

September 10, the Syrian Ministry of Health declared an outbreak of cholera in Aleppo Governorate following 15 confirmed laboratory cases.

Euphrates water contamination is the main reason for cholera, according to the official statements.
