Teachers stage vigil in SNA-held areas in Syria’s Aleppo
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of teachers in al-Bab city, east of Aleppo in northern Syria, organized on Thursday a sit-in in front of the Education Directorate building, asking for a pay rise in salaries commensurate with the living situation in the area.
An exclusive source told North Press that dozens of teachers raised signs calling for improving their conditions and salaries, in addition to developing the poor educational reality in the region.
Teachers in the city of Azaz, north of Aleppo, also organized a similar vigil, calling for improving the teachers’ conditions, increasing their salaries, and improving the education system, according to the source.
Both cities have been controlled by Turkey and its affiliated opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), since August 2016.
The teachers’ salaries do not exceed $60 at best in the SNA-held areas in northern Syria, according to reports.
The Turkish government, represented by the Education Directorates in the cities of Kilis and Gaziantep, controls the education sector in the SNA-controlled areas in northern Syria.
