Students get infected with cholera in Syria’s Aleppo
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, an exclusive source from Aleppo Education Directorate told North Press that four cholera cases were recorded in schools in the eastern neighborhoods in the city.
The cases were confirmed after being suspected for two days due to diarrhea. However, the cases are not advanced, according to the source.
The children were granted an illness leave for treatment at home, and to spare other students the risk of being infected, it added.
The source went further saying that the directorate and medical teams will visit all schools for raising awareness against the seriousness of the disease and how it spreads.
Additionally, instructions will be delivered to the students about having water from their own bottles and never exchange bottles with others, bringing home made food, as well as preventing sellers from selling ice cream in front of the schools, in addition to sterilizing water tanks.
Another source from al-Razi Hospital told North Press number of infections that are hospitalized in al-Razi and Zahi Azraq hospitals is 60.
It added that an 80-year-old woman with heart problems, who suffers from an advanced stage of cholera, is being monitored in the intensive care unit.
The government hospitals are visited by residents of the countryside, while residents of the city visit either private hospitals or clinics for treatment, according to North Press correspondent.
In the past two days, Ministry of Health in the Syrian government reordered seven deaths from cholera four of which in Aleppo, two in Deir ez-Zor and one in Hasakah.
The ministry said in a statement that the number of the confirmed cases has come up to 53.
The cases are as follows: 22 in Aleppo, 13 in Hasakah, 10 in Deir ez-Zor, 6 in Latakia, two in Damascus for individuals coming from Aleppo.
