Israel accuses Iran of converting Syrian military sites into weapons’ factories

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iran has transformed military sites in Syria into precision-guided missile manufacturing facilities for Lebanese Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed militias, Israeli Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz, said on Monday.

He said the initiative began under Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s Quds Force who was assassinated by an American airstrike in 2020.

Gantz revealed, through a press conference, a map of military facilities across Syria pointing out that they were used to manufacture advanced munitions for Iran and its terror proxies, according to Israeli media sources.

“The sites that I reveal to you on the map, and in particular the underground site in Masyaf where precision missiles are manufactured, constitute a significant potential threat to the region and to Israel,” Gantz said.

“Iran is building terror industries in Syria for its needs. Recently it started building advanced industries in Yemen and Lebanon as well. This trend must be stopped,” he added.

On May 13, Israel launched airstrikes on the countryside of Masyaf, and on August 23, other sites in the same area were bombarded by Israeli missiles.

Early in this month, two airstrikes, attributed to Israel, disrupted operations at Aleppo’s International Airport, stopping air traffic for two days.
