New commander of CJTF-OIR was assigned
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Army Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane assumed on Saturday command as Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) commanding general from US Army Maj. Gen. John Brennan.
The transfer of authority ceremony was conducted in Baghdad, Iraq’s capital, on September 8, 2022, the CJTF-OIR said in a statement.
“The colors were passed by the presiding officer, U.S. Army Gen. Michael E. Kurilla, commanding general, U.S. Central Command,” the statement read.
The statement added that the coalition continues to support the Syrian Democratic Forces’ “anti-ISIS operations through advice, specialized intelligence sharing and air support,” noting, “The SDF and coalition continue to protect critical infrastructure to deny ISIS access to oil finances.”
“CJTF-OIR remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting partners in Iraq and Syria as they secure the enduring defeat of Daesh, preventing its reemergence and protecting our homelands,” the statement stressed.
CJTF-OIR is the military component of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, which started in both Iraq and Syria in October 2014.
