Special Operations send condolences to SDF for casualties in Hawl Camp

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Combined Special Operations Joint Task Force – Levant (SOJTF) sent their condolences to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for two casualties of the SDF in Hawl Camp, northeast Syria.

On Thursday, the SDF Media Center revealed that two SDF fighters lost their lives as a result of their participation in a raid in Hawl Camp east of Hasakah.

“Two of our fighters were martyred of their severe wounds following a clash that erupted last night with a 7-terrorist ISIS cell, including two women and five men masquerading as women in Phase 5th where they were trying to escape from the al-Hol camp,” the SDF said in a statement

In a tweet, the SOJTF said that “Our partners [SDF] suffered two fatal casualties at the hands of ISIS.”

It added that the “ISIS facilitators” were attempting to escape the campaign launched by the security forces in Hawl Camp.

On August 25, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced launching the second phase of Operation “Humanity and Security” in Hawl Camp to pursue the ISIS sleeper cells.

The first phase was launched in 2021 in response to calls of community and tribal leaders in Hawl countryside to reduce crimes at the camp.

Hawl Camp, 45 km east of the city of Hasakah, is a house for 55.829 individuals, including 28.725 Iraqis, 18.850 Syrians and 8.254 of foreign nationalities, according to the latest statistics obtained by North Press.

The camp witnesses murders with different methods, most notably firearms. The management of the camp fears that the latest Turkish threats of invading areas in northern Syria would pave the way for ISIS to reorganize its ranks; North Press cited a statement by the management as saying.

“We send our condolences & remain resolved to support our partners in this critical mission,” the SOJTF added.
