Government forces, Turkish-backed SNA clash in northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Several areas in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo, northwest Syria, witnessed on Thursday mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition faction, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA).
“The government forces targeted, with dozens of artillery shells and missile, SNA’s positions in the surrounding villages and towns of al-Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra and Benin in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib,” an opposition military source told North Press.
Similar shelling focused on the vicinity of the villages and towns of al-Habata, Kafr Ammeh, Kafr Nuran, Tuqad, Maklabis and Sheikh Suleiman, west of Aleppo, and the villages of al-Sermaniyah and al-Enkawi in Ghab Plain, west of Hama, the source added.
A military source of the National Front for Liberation told North Press that the al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room intensified its shelling of government forces’ posts in Kafr Nabl, Maarat al-Numan, al-Dana, Kokbeh, Hantoutin and Jabala, south of Idlib.
It also targeted the government forces in the city of Saraqib and the villages of Jobas and Dadikh, east of Idlib, and the Regiment 46, Miznaz and Urum al-Kubra, west of Aleppo, with heavy artillery shells and missiles, according to the same source.
Seven people were killed and 12 others were wounded, this afternoon, as a result of Russian air raid targeting the outskirts of villages and towns in the western countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict amid news of government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
