Asayish confiscate suicide vests in Humanity, Security in Syria’s Hawl

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) said they arrested on Wednesday at night six militants of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) including two women in Hawl Camp east of Hasakah, northeast Syria.

On its Facebook account, the Asayish posted a statement, in which they revealed about information obtained that a number of ISIS militants would escape from the fifth sector, designated for Iraqis. At about 01:00 am, the Asayish headed to the site and arrested them.

The statement added that during the operation, security authorities clashed with the ISIS militants, causing the death of an ISIS militant disguised in women clothing.

Three AK-47s, a suicide vest, ten AK-47 magazines, a launcher, charges, and two suicide vests were found in the arrestees’ possession.

In the 14th day of Operation Humanity and Security to pursue ISIS militants in Hawl Camp, eight militants were arrested.

On August 25, the Asayish announced launching the second phase of Operation “Humanity and Security” in Hawl Camp to pursue the ISIS sleeper cells.

The first phase was launched in 2021 in response to calls of community and tribal leaders in Hawl countryside to reduce crimes at the camp.

Additionally, 12 Grenades, 25 pistol bullets, and pistol magazines, silencers, as well as many cellphones and laptops were confiscated, according to the Asayish statement.

The campaign continues the day 15 on Thursday, waiting for the outcomes of the second week to be released in the coming hours.

Hawl Camp, 45 km east of the city of Hasakah, is a house for 55.829 individuals, including 28.725 Iraqis, 18.850 Syrians and 8.254 of foreign nationalities, according to the latest statistics obtained by North Press.

The camp witnesses murders with different methods, most notably firearms. The management of the camp fears that the latest Turkish threats of invading areas in northern Syria would pave the way for ISIS to reorganize its ranks; North Press cited a statement by the management as saying.

On Wednesday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) praised efforts paid by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in pursuing militants ISIS in the camp that make it safer.

Colonel Joe Buccino, CENTCOM communications director, said in a statement, “For the past two weeks, Syrian Democratic Forces have been conducting security operations in al-Hol displaced persons camp.”
