US diplomat says Washington supports intra-Syrian dialogue

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Nikolas Granger, US Senior Representative to Northeast Syria, stressed on Monday on the importance of all Syrian parties to participate in resolving the Syrian crisis, noting that his country supports intra-Syrian dialogue.

Granger’s words came in a meeting he held with the president of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Ilham Ahmad.

The SDC is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was founded in 2015 and includes all the communities of north and east Syria.

The two sides discussed the political situation in Syria in general and northeastern Syria in particular, and means to strengthen cooperation at the political level.

The US Representative renewed his country’s  commitment to keep backing the AANES and SDF in combating terrorism. He also stressed the US support for stability programs in the region, which would lay the ground for investments in the region, and thus preventing the Islamic State (ISIS) from reorganizing its ranks.

On August 31, Granger visited Hawl Camp in northeastern Syria to check the anti-ISIS security campaign launched by the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish).

After the visit, he went to the Department of Foreign Relations of the AANES in Qamishli city where he met Badran Chia Kurd, co-chair of the department. In the meeting, Granger said that they were putting extensive effort to repatriate foreign nationals in the camp, noting that a conference regarding this matter would be held soon.
