Turkey’s Defense announces helicopter crash in northern Iraq

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Ministry of National Defense of Turkey announced late on Sunday the crash of a military helicopter of the country’s army during a military operation on a border area in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), northern Iraq.

Turkish media outlets cited the ministry as claiming in a statement the helicopter was on a supply mission and had to make a hard landing in the Operation Claw-Lock.

Eight personnel were on board, seven of them were rescued, while search is underway for the remaining individual, according to Turkish outlets.

One day ago, Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) announced its fighters shot down a Turkish military helicopter in Zap, north of Duhok Governorate.

Turkey launched the Operation Claw-Lock in April to target PKK in northern Iraq.

Turkish army launches areal and ground attacks along the border strip with the KRI, and sometimes they are launched on areas cover 200 kilometers in depth despite the presence of dozens military bases in different areas in Duhok and Erbil in addition to another in Nineveh.
