US-led Global Coalition pays first visit to Syria’s Rukban camp
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, a delegation of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) visited Rukban camp on Syrian-Jordanian border.
Local sources in Rukban camp told North Press the Global Coalition’s delegation, which its headquarters is al-Tanf garrison on Syrian-Iraqi border, visited the camp and entered Sham medical point.
The sources added, “The delegation did not meet with any of the camp’s residents during the visit.”
Hamza al-Homsi, a pseudonym for an activist in the camp, said this has been the first visit of its kind by the coalition forces since 2014 when the camp was established.
The camp has been suffering since 2018 due to a severe siege, following the closure of the Jordanian border and the government restriction that aims at pushing the residents of the camp to return to their areas, according to reports.
Al-Homsi went further saying that the coalition’s visit “confirms stability of security condition unlike what the UN office in Damascus and the Syrian Regime has been promoting.”
He added, “The delegation pledged to offer support to the medical point in the coming few days, without specifying the type or date of the support.”
The delegation, also, made an exploratory walkabout on the outskirts of the camp before leaving towards al-Tanf garrison, according to the activist.
