Syria’s Foreign Ministry calls UN to condemn Israeli attacks

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates renewed on Thursday its call to the UN Security Council and UN Secretariat to condemn the Israeli attacks on the Syrian soil.

In a letter to the Security Council and the UN Secretariat, the foreign ministry called on the two institutions “to condemn the Israeli attacks on the Syrian territory as a violation of sovereignty and a direct threat to regional and international peace and security,” reported SANA, the state-run news agency.

On Wednesday, Israel fired several missiles targeting Aleppo International Airport, causing significant damage to its runway and completely destroying the navigational station with its equipment, rendering the airport out of service. Two hours later, Israel launched several airstrikes on Damascus International Airport, causing damage to its  navigational station, according to SANA.

The ministry said this is not the first time that Israel attacks public commercial and civil facilities.

Syria preserves its full rights in holding Israel “accountable legally, morally, politically and financially for deliberately targeting the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo and causing all that sabotage and destruction,” continued the ministry.

The ministry called on the Security Council and UN Secretariat to condemn Israel’s repeated attacks and violations of the international law provisions.

On June 10, Israel attacked Damascus International Airport with several airstrikes, causing significant damage to its runway and forcing the airport to suspended all its air operations until June 23.
