Syria’ Autonomous Administration in Deir ez-Zor calls for Coalition support
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Deir ez-Zor Civil Administration, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), demanded on Thursday, US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS administrative and security support.
Muhammad Rajab, co-chair of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, said that support provided for the AANES areas is not enough.
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.
“It is the responsibility of the US-led Global Coalition to support security and stability of the region to prevent the continuation of ISIS sleeper cells’ activities,” Rajab added.
He told North Press that the contact lines between the AANES areas and Syrian government ones in Deir ez-Zor “formed a hotbed for radical cells.”
“Deir ez-Zor region witnesses terrorist operations by either ISIS cells or Iranian-backed militias,” he indicated.
Rajab considered that the efforts made by the security forces in Deir ez-Zor are “colossal”, as they provide security and stability to improve the security situation in the region in general.
He pointed out that the service situation in Deir ez-Zor is good compared to previous years, and service projects are constantly improving.
“The region has started to witness the launch of investment projects which positively reflected on infrastructure,” he noted.
Although the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.
