US voices concern over attacks on Syria’s north
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Department of State voiced on Monday concern about recent attacks that targeted areas in northern Syria, including al-Bab and Hasakah, causing casualties.
In a statement, the US Department of State said, “We deplore the civilian casualties in al-Bab, Hasakah, and elsewhere.”
On August 19, the government forces targeted, with several missiles, the neighborhood of al-Raheb and the al-Khamis old market in the city of al-Bab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, causing civilian casualties, including women and children.
On August 18, a Turkish drone targeted a UN-affiliated education center in a village on the road between the city of Hasakah and the town of Tel Tamr in northeast Syria, killing four girls.
In the statement, the US Department of State called for all parties to stick to ceasefires agreements.
In October 2019, following a Turkish military operation in areas of northeast Syria which resulted in the occupation of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) north of Hasakah, the Turkish president signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.
The ceasefire agreements stipulating halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrols with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.
The US Department of State renewed its pledges in fighting Islamic State Organization (ISIS) and finding resolutions for Syrian issue, saying, “We remain committed to our efforts to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS and a political resolution to the Syrian conflict.”
