Turkish forces resume shelling Syria’s Hasakah countryside
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled on Saturday a village in the countryside of the town of Tel Tamr, north of Hasakah in northeastern Syria.
For over 20 days, the Turkish forces have continued to bombard villages in the northern countryside of Hasakah causing displacement and casualties among residents.
Following the Turkish incursion of Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US, stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 32 km away from the Turkish border. The SDF did withdrew from the border areas according to the agreement, but Turkey continues targeting the area.
The Turkish forces fired artillery shells at the village of al-Gozaliya, north of Tel Tamr, said a military source of Tel Tamr Military Council, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Turkish shelling came at a time the villages of north of Hasakah witness a military escalation by Turkey.
Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25,000 and is 30 km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking the Jazira region in northeast Syria to Aleppo governorate in northwest.
