Body of ISIS-affiliate found in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, locals of the town of Mezeirib, west of Daraa in southern Syria, found the body of a killed man, said to be a militant of the Islamic State (ISIS).  

An eyewitness told North Press that “Today in the morning Muhammad Ahmad al-Hallaq, nicknamed Omar al-Jababi, 36, was found killed near al-Shummari Refinery north of the town.”   

The body which was transferred to the Tafas National Hospital, had traces of firing from a close range at the mouth, according to the eyewitness.

The eyewitness indicated that al-Hallaq, who comes from the city of Jabab, in the north of Daraa, was formerly a lieutenant within the Syrian government forces, and joined the opposition and then ISIS in the Yarmouk valley in 2016.     

Social media outlets in Daraa circulated a video showing al-Hallaq admitting to his affiliation with ISIS and his responsibility for the murder of Abu al-Bara’ al-Jalam member of the Central Committee in the city of Jassem in north of Daraa.   

On August 9, an ISIS leader blew himself up after he was encircled in a house, following clashes with the Syrian government forces in the southern countryside of Daraa.
