SDF leader survives assassination attempt in NE Syria

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) survived, Friday evening, an assassination attempt in a town east of Deir ez-Zor governorate, northeast Syria.

A military source told North Press that gunmen targeted, with machineguns, car of Muhammad Ramadan, the SDF leader, known as “hyena” near a cemetery on the outskirts of the town of Shuhail.

The leader survived the assassination attempt, while one of his escorts was hit with two bullets, and he was transported to military hospital, and his health condition is stable at the moment, the source added.

The source pointed out that the hyena, who hails from Shuhail, is responsible for protecting oil facilities in Deir ez-Zor.

The leader, during the current year, also survived four other assassination attempts, two of which were claimed by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS), according to the source.

Although the SDF launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.

The SDF keeps pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region.

On Friday, the SDF arrested a suspect for belonging to ISIS in Shuhail.
