Government posts in Syria’s Daraa sustain unknown attacks

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday evening, a number of military posts of the Syrian government forces in the eastern countryside of Daraa were under attack by unidentified gunmen.

Local sources told North Press that the unidentified gunmen opened fire on a military checkpoint of the government forces on Damascus-Daraa Highway, west of Saida, a village in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

The checkpoint fired back in response, and no injuries of both sides were recorded, the sources added.

Another checkpoint, which is affiliated with the Syrian Air Force Intelligence, situated south of the town of al-Musayfrah in the eastern countryside of Daraa was also under attack by RPG rocket launchers and light weapons, the sources said.

Another unidentified attack targeted a military post of the government forces in the village of al-Sahwah east of Daraa.

No losses were recorded in the attack, according to the same sources.

Dozens demonstrated, Friday, in the city of Jasim in the northern countryside of Daraa in solidarity with the city of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa that is being shelled and blockaded by the government forces amid escalating threats of intrusion.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.

In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.
