Delegation of Syria’s Autonomous Administration visits France
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – It is essential to prevent any attack or invasion against northeast Syria because it will cause humanitarian tragedies and will benefit the Islamic State Organization (ISIS), said Pierre Laurent, head of the French Senate House, on Tuesday.
This came while receiving a delegation of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the French capital city, Paris, including Abdulkarim Omar, co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations, Abdulsalam Mustafa, representative of the AANES in Europe, and Khaled Issa representative of the AANES in France.
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.
The delegation thanked the initiative launched by 100 French parliamentarians.
On July 31, a hundred French MPs denounced the “policy of war” that Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan follows against the Kurds in northern Syria.
The French MPs, who are mainly from the political left, urged the UN Security Council to impose a no-fly zone on northern Syria.
“While the rest of the world is focused on Ukraine, as Russia’s war crimes multiply there, Erdogan is planning to launch an umpteenth bloody offensive against the Kurds in northern Syria,” the French MPs said in a statement published by the JDD title.
Laurent expressed his gratitude for the efforts that Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is spending for the sake of fighting ISIS, the thing that he called “self-defense”.
