NE Syria’s Asayish thwarts ISIS smuggling attempt from Hawl Camp

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) thwarted on Tuesday an attempt to smuggle 56 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) families from Hawl Camp, east of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

The official website of the Asayish published video footage of the operation, showing a large truck loaded with timber to camouflage the smuggled people, noting that they were able to foil the process.

The truck, which left the camp on Tuesday’s afternoon, was seized while carrying 56 members of ISIS families, including 39 children, the Asayish statement said.

The statement added that the smuggler who planned the operation was arrested.

The Asayish has not provided any further details about the attempt.

At the beginning of July, the camp’s management announced that 28 murders had occurred since the beginning 2022, including 12 Syrians, 14 Iraqi refugees and two unidentified bodies, in addition to 15 unsuccessful attempted murders.

Hawl Camp, located 45 kilometers east of Hasakah, houses around 55.825 people, including 28.723 Iraqis, 18.848 internally displaced Syrians, and 8.254 foreign nationals, according to the latest official statistics obtained by North Press.
